U.S. President Barack Obama will push General Motors Corp (GM.N) into bankruptcy protection on Monday, making a risky bet that by temporarily nationalizing the onetime icon of American capitalism, he can save at least a diminished automaker that is competitive. A federal judge on Sunday night cleared a path for Chrysler to exit bankruptcy by approving a sale of most of the carmaker's assets to a new entity to be run by Fiat (FIA.MI) of Italy. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said on Monday that the global financial crisis seemed to be easing, but that the United States and China would have to work together to rebalance the world economy.
